Today there is a network of over 5800 publicly accessible charging points in Germany.
In order to accelerate the further expansion of the charging infrastructure, 300 million euros will be made available through a federal funding program. The goal is a nationwide supply with a further 15,000 charging stations. The program runs from 2017 - 2020 and comprises two funding areas. The establishment of around 5000 publicly accessible quick-charging points (S-LIS) in metropolitan areas and along the federal trunk roads is to be supported with 200 million euros. Another 100 million euros are earmarked for the construction of around 10,000 normal charging stations (N-LIS). These new charging points are created both on publicly accessible areas in private ownership, for example petrol stations, shopping centers or car sharing stations, and in public spaces. Both private investors and cities and communities are supported. The responsible Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) is currently developing the relevant funding guidelines, which also regulate the necessary requirements for funding and the funding process. The Federal Office for Administrative Services (BAV) is responsible for the implementation of the funding program and handles the processing of applications. In general, the following applies: For private individuals up to € 1,600.00 and for companies, up to € 9,000.00 can currently (2018) receive state funding.
